Located at the foot of the towering Laikipia Escarpment in the Great Rift Valley, at about 60 km north of Nakuru, Lake Bogoria is a long and shallow soda lake. Stretched over an area of about 30 sq km, Bogoria is best known for its scenic settings. The lake is famous for its furiously erupting hot springs, boiling geysers, and boiling pools, offering a breathtaking sight to visitors. Lake Bogoria is also rich in blue-green algae, which attracts thousands of flamingoes and pelicans to its shores. Some of the hot springs are ideal for bathing and are excellent natural spas for the visitors.
One of the most beautiful and spectacular Rift Valley lakes in Kenya, Lake Bogoria was declared a National Reserve in November 1983. Covering an area of over 105 sq km, the park is home to Buffaloes, Hyenas, Warthogs, Zebras, Impalas, Baboons, Gazelles, and Dik Diks. Bogoria National Park also protects one of Kenya's remaining herds of Greater Kudus, which are easily seen on the eastern shores of the lake. Bogoria is an amazing geological wonder, which no one can afford to miss on his Kenya Tour. Visitors can explore the beauty of the Lake and its surroundings by camping, walking or boating.
