Lake Victoria: The largest lake in Africa, Lake Victoria stretches along the western border of Kenya. Lake Victoria is 67,493 sq kms in size and divides the African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Lake Victoria is called Nyanza by the local people and is the source of the Nile. Lake Bogoria: This 32 sq Km volcanic lake is surrounded by arid desert. The lake is home to flocks of flamingos, and antelope, kudu and zebra can be seen drinking from the freshwater springs near its banks. Geysers and thermal springs bubble along the western shore.
Lake Baringo: This 129 sq Km freshwater lake in Northern Kenya is home to many water birds, including pelicans, fishing eagles and cormorants. Crocodiles lurk below the waters, while the traditional Njemps fishermen row their boats along the lake. Lake Magadi: Not far from Nairobi is the 104 sq km Lake Magadi. This soda lake is the nesting ground of flamingoes, who arrive here in their thousands. The flamingoes can nest here free from predators, since the lake is surrounded by extensive salt flats where other animals cannot survive.
