An extinct volcano, Mt Elgon offers excellent trekking routes, full of breathtaking scenery and amazing flora and fauna. The mountain also has many warm geothermal springs and waterfalls, and caves, decorated with ancient cave paintings.
Mt Elgon attracts thousands of trekkers and wildlife enthusiasts from all round the world. Trekking through lush forests and broad moorlands up to the peaks promises a rewarding experience for visitors, as the region offers plenty of attractions. Large herds of Elephants cross through the caves to deep into the mountain each night, offering an unforgettable sight to visitors. Mount Elgon National Park, covering an area of approximately 169 sq. km., shelters a wide variety of wildlife including buffalos, elephants, leopards, bushbuck, black and white colobus monkeys, gazelles, and hundreds of exotic bird species.
