Located on the edges of the famous Tsavo National Park, and within view of the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro, the Taita and Chyulu Hills are among the youngest volcanic mountains (Chyulu Hills are believed to be only 500 years old) in the world. The hills have many enchanting lakes and waterfalls, and offer stunning views of Mt Kilimanjaro and scenic surroundings below. Covered with thick vegetations, these picturesque hills are also known for their unique wildlife and bird population, making it a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers. Both Taita and Chyulu Hills are easily accessible and provide excellent conditions for trekking and hiking. The Taita Hills mainly consists of three groups of hills: the Dabida, Sagalla and Kasigau, covering an area of over 1,000 sq km and forming the northernmost part of the Eastern Arc Mountains.

Rising from a level of about 1,350 m to a maximum elevation of 2,228 m (Wuria Peak), the Taita Hills offer some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Kenya. The hills also house a small wildlife sanctuary with a wide variety of wildlife including lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffalos, and the extremely rare Taita Falcon. Nearby are two stunning lakes: Jipe and Chala, offering stunning view of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The picturesque Chyulu Hills comprises of many ash cones and craters. Though, they don't have any permanent surface water, the rainfall percolating through the porous rock feed many permanent fresh water source for nearby Mzima springs and the Tsavo River. Relatively undisturbed than other hills, Chyulu are known for their indigenous vegetation and wildlife including cheetahs and elephants.
