Named after the crystal clear Buffalo Springs, which flow
through the eastern side of the reserve, the Buffalo Springs
National Reserve is a unique blend of rounded hills and plains.
The landscape is a mixture of arid thornbush savannah and
scrubland interspersed with riverine forests and swamps.
Location
Situated in northern Kenya, against the backdrop of Mount
Ol Olokwe, the Buffalo Springs National Reserve can be accessed
either through air or by road.
Climate
The climate is moist and moderately dry.
Wild Life Attractions
With over 365 species of birds, The Buffalo Springs national
Reserves is home to some rare species like the helmeted and
vulturine guinea fowls, sandgrouse and doves in addition to
a galaxy of smaller birds.
Among animals, the Reticulated giraffes, Grevy's zebras, elephants,
black rhinos, Ground squirrels, oryxs, Somali ostriches, hippopotamus,
crocodiles, gerenuks, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs
and hyenas are the major attractions.
Things to do
Tourists can go for a drive along the river, which gives a
chance to catch glimpse of a variety of animals. They can
also take a dip in on of the Buffalo Springs pools that are
specially conditioned for bathing. The reserve is a haven
for bird watchers and people can also go for camping inside
the premises.

is located at the banks of Uaso Nyiro River.
