The Lake Bogoria National Reserve is famed for its scenic beauty of the calm Lake Bogoria framed by the bluish hills covered by riverine forests, dry bush and grassland. The alkaline lake attracts a huge number of flamingoes seasonally which further adds to its beauty.
Location
The Lake Bogoria National Reserve, covering a toal area of 107 sq km is located at the northern region of the Kenyan Rift, 25 km south of Baringo and can be accessed either via road or air
Climate
Mostly hot and dry conditions prevail in this part of the region.
Wild Life Attractions
With over 135 species of birds flocking the region, the bird life is the primary attraction. Exotic birds like the tawny eagle, pratincole, swift, little bee-eater, cape wigeon, yellow-billed stork, African spoonbill and augur buzzard can be seen.
Other major attractions include the Reserve's herd of the rare Greater Kudue and other game like buffalo, zebra, cheetah, baboon, warthog, caracal, spotted hyena and many small mammals.
Things to do
The Lake Bogoria National Reserve is an ornithologists' heaven hence bird watching a must. Other activities include walking through the trails and game viewing. There are facilities provided for camping and picnicking too.
Accommodation
The 8 small cottages can accommodate up to 78 people at any given time. Adventurous people can camp outside at the three designated campsites.
