The Mount Kenya National Park, a world heritage site is named after Mt. Kenya, the second highest mountain in all of east Africa. The park acts as Biosphere Reserve also and has different forest habitats ranging from alpine moorlands, glaciers, high forest bamboo, and tarns to glacial moraines.
Location
Situated on the east side of the Rift, the Mount Kenya National Park lies north, northwest to Nairobi and can be accessed through the Nankyuki-Isiolo road via Sirimon track or through the Nyeri-Nankyuki road. Nanyuki also has an airstrip.
Climate
The climate keeps varying with different altitudes hence tourists should be prepared to face all kinds of weather while visiting the Mount Kenya National Park.
Wild Life Attractions
The park is host to some rare wildlife species like the Suni Antelope, the Mt. Kenya Mole Rat, and the Montane Viper. Other animals include Black and White Colobus and Sykes Monkeys, bushbucks, Rock and rock Hyraxes, buffaloes, elephants, Olive Baboons, waterbucks, Black Rhinos and lots more
Though the park cannot boast of a prolific bird life, one can still see Crowned hawk eagles, Jackson's francolins, Abyssinian long-eared owls. From the lodges, one can see
Scaly francolin, Hartlaubs turaco, bronze-naped pigeon & Silvery-cheeked hornbill among others.
Things to do
Tourists can go for game viewing and mountain climbing. The Mount Kenya National Park also undertakes mountain expeditions with mules as pack animals.

The park offers several types of accommodation. There are huts (North Hut, Minto's Hut, etc), Sirimon bandas, Warden cottage and several lodges like Mountain Lodge and Rtundu Fishing Lodge.
